How generative AI poses a range of risks to young people and how to manage vulnerabilities and safeguarding

This course will aim to provide an understanding of what generative AI is.

An overview of areas of harm including:

– Grooming/sextortion
– Self-harm and suicidality
– Misinformation (particularly medical)
– AI companions/partners
– Bullying

Including, an understanding of the impacts, vulnerability factors as well as an understanding of safeguards already in place (legislation and platform rules) and other safeguarding options.

The objectives of this course include:

  • Look at a range of generative AI platforms
  • Discuss the harmful topics and look at examples
  • Breakdown some of the vulnerability factors
  • Talk through legislation and safeguards such as Ofcom, Online Safety Act and individual platform safeguards
  • Look at other implementable safeguarding options
